Writing Daily

I have spent months working on this habit forming software, but I hardly ever mentioned what I am using it for!

Yes that’s right, I use my own software. Every day. So if something needs improvement, I’m right on it. For me as much as for my customers.

Right now, none of my current goals are really embarrassing, and so I will be completely open about them in the future. If you are wondering what kind of embarrassing goals I could have had in the past… well, keep wondering!

Today I will add a new goal: Updating my Blog Daily. In the spirit of HabitShaper, my goal will be specific and measurable, so “I will update my blog every day” doesn’t cut it. Actually, let me switch over to HS and do it now.

Creating a SMART version of "Updating My Blog Daily"

Creating a SMART version of my goal

There. I picked 140 words as my goal, because that is short enough that I won’t be tempted to bore you with filler just to meet my word-count goal. As you can see, HS recommended I start with 7 words today, which is ridiculously easy. But that’s the point! Stage One is simply to get into the habit of doing it, so 7 words is definitely something I can do every day.

You’ll also notice I left “Auto-adjust Targets?” at the default “Better or Worse”. So when I start doing more than 7 words to begin with, HS will bring the targets up. In fact, let’s see what would happen if I were to stop this post now. (248 words)

My target for tomorrow jumped to 31 words! Still easy as pie, but HS learned from the fact that 248 is doable right now, and adjusted the minimum accordingly.

In the next few days, I will go through some other goals I have, and some other features.
But for today, that is all.
