Setting Goals Based On Time – Don’t!
Any goal you have can be a time-based goal. But this should be avoided as much as possible.
- “I will jog for 30 minutes.”
- “I will write for 1 hour each day.”
- “I will study for an hour every weekday.”
And so on…
If at all possible, make your goals based on something other than time! We all know that not all time is equal; we say we work “8 hours a day”, but how often are we working at full capacity?
These goals, on the other hand, can’t be faked:
- “I will jog for 800m every day.”
- “I will write at least 600 words a day.”
- “I will do at least 10 practice problems every weekday.”
I won’t claim that they are the best possible for these situations, but thinking like this is a skill, and it will help you achieve real progress.
In some cases, you have to be pretty creative to find a metric that isn’t time. But it’s worth it!
