Long checklists? Use dice…

My thesis editing checklists are at least 20 items long. “Fix figure axes” takes a minute, but “translate Abstract into French” takes almost an hour.

If I go through them chronologically, I run out of steam before the end. And if I just go ahead and pick them, I’ll procrastinate on the harder ones.

So, I number the list, and roll a 20-sided dice!

Yes, it’s a little dorky. But hey, the fact that I have one of these means dorkiness is a given.

Anyway, it really helps me, so I thought I’d share.

You remind me of me. I had just started my list of tasks to complete today, and instead of the dice thing, I put write numbers on a slip of paper, put the slips into a jar or something, and draw one out at a time.

Yeah, it makes it more fun, and eliminates the tendency to do what we like instead of what has to be done.

Numbers on a slip of paper is definitely less dorky than rolling a 20-sided dice though!
